Piedmont Driving Club is looking for a Director of Athletics, who will elevate the department to the next level by expanding fitness and wellness, and aquatic programs to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of their membership. The position requires a well-organized professional who is creative, innovative and has unparalleled customer-service skills. This position oversees newly renovated women’s and men’s health clubs, aquatics, sporting clays and childcare.



Piedmont Driving Club has a history of long tenure within the DOA position as well as the senior directors running each of its departments. That trend is a testament to the team spirit that is prevalent throughout the Athletic Department and the sense of mission and superb culture by both staff and members. It is the responsibility of the new DOA to lead this team to improve the lives of members and staff through supporting relationships that foster good health and wellbeing. The DOA must have a natural desire to learn and improve, just as an athlete and team does. This is a position for the type of leader who can define this culture, teach it and live it.

The Director of Athletics reports to the General Manager and is responsible for all athletic department employees. The following direct reports are the core of the Director of Athletics’ leadership team and include Assistant Director of Athletics, Head Swim Team Coach, personal trainers, massage therapists, childcare specialists, and all support staff.  It is a big job, and one that requires the ability to articulate a vision, communicate clearly, empower the team, and help individuals achieve success. It is expected the DOA also work in concert with a cadre of member volunteers, committee chairperson’s representing the various activities of the club. Innovative programming is an art and a treasured characteristic of a well-run department and is valued by Piedmont Driving Club membership and management. The DOA must build a creative culture for programming to thrive. In short, the DOA is responsible for developing and overseeing dynamic athletic programs for the Club’s adult and junior members.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining departmental budgets for equipment, fees, and other items necessary to enable the department to produce a well-rounded, high member experience department. 
  • Will understand the membership and their needs hence fostering an extraordinary member experience.
  • Be a leader in understanding industry trends and innovation in the area of health and wellness.
  • Leads and serves with all strategic planning initiatives.
  • Oversees all athletic programs and day camps for the 6-10 ages junior members.
  • Regular attendance at essential meetings, planning sessions, and committee events.
  • Coordinates with directors to produce a comprehensive calendar of events, camps, group classes and training initiatives for each season.
  • Also works to coordinate competitions and events for the sporting clay’s area.
  • Cycling, walking and outdoor outings
  • Responsible for managing the safety of all members, especially minors, by ensuring compliance with Piedmont Driving Club’s Youth Protection Program.
  • Serves as staff liaison to the Board’s Athletics Committee’s to ensure the department executes the Board’s direction and vision as it relates to sports programs at Piedmont Driving Club.                                                               


  • Preferably a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Director of Athletics or Director of Fitness and Wellness.
  • Work experience must be progressive in respected institutions with verifiable areas of responsibility and accomplishments.
  • BA in either Sports Management, exercise physiology, sports science, or another comparable field.
  • Experience in formulating and monitoring budgets
  • Experience with aquatics, wellness programs, recovery techniques and/or a similar role with responsibilities for the development and support of the membership and sports that the PDC offers.
  • Ability to build strong and supportive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.

This club does not require staff to be fully vaccinated as a provision of employment but encourages vaccination through an incentive program.
